LANGHOLM pipe band has had an extremely busy summer-time playing at both Langholm Common Riding and at a number of other events.
At the start of July Ricky Henderson won the best dressed drum major competition in Annan and on the 7th July the pipe band played at Hayescastle farm at Distington in West Cumbria at a vintage rally. It was an exceptionally warm day.
The band piped the pony ride around Langholm on the 10th July and played the horses around the town on the evening of the Castle Craigs rideout.
As well as the Common Riding concert appearance the band met the ‘last train’ on Simmer Fair night on a very hot evening.
Whilst Lennie Bell played in his 65th Common Riding this year, which is a huge achievement for anyone, a number of young drummers played in their first Common Riding including Gregor Barker, Jasmine Edwards, Anna Middlemass and Hannah Jeffrey.
On 3rd August Ricky Henderson went to Dundonald Highland games where he won the adult drum major competition and also was named as the Champion of Champions in the Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway branch championship. He’s now looking forward to the world pipe band championships in August.
On another lovely day in early August the band played to crowds at Gilsland show in Cumbria and are now looking forward to their appearance at Canonbie show this Saturday.
