The Scottish Conservatives will this week hold a vote at Holyrood on controversial proposals for mega-pylons in the Borders and across the country.
On Wednesday, the party will use a debate in the Scottish Parliament to call for a “community veto” over energy infrastructure projects, so proposals cannot go ahead without the consent of the local area.
Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton and MP John Lamont have both written objections to the mega-pylon Cross Border Connection Project, which would install approximately 75km of new overhead power lines across the Borders.
Scottish Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton said: “We will hold this debate and vote on mega-pylon projects because we believe local people should decide what happens in their own communities.
“The Cross Border Connection Project proposal does not reflect the needs and concerns of Borders residents, so it should not go ahead as planned.
