1,000+ signature petition endorses demands
Langholm’s ailing health services are now in need of urgent life support.
That’s the claim by Councillor Denis Male, after the announcement of yet more hold-ups to the Murtholm care development dealt another blow to the elderly, disabled and those in need of hospital and day services.
And Cllr Male has now described the project – which has been delayed by Covid, boundary disputes, and now cost increases – as “a total white elephant.”
“The Loreburn scheme would have delivered a life changing environment for so many families with a knock-on effect to others in need of special help living in the community,” he said.
“Now it looks like it is to be downscaled and might be delivered sometime in the future. The let- down from this has been devastating. It was suggested it would be the first project completed when the work restarted but recent communications don’t even mention Langholm.”
Health provision in Langholm has already been severely curtailed, with the transfer of day services from the Thomas Hope Hospital forcing patients to make their way to Annan for physiotherapy and podiatry treatment.
