SSDA want an increase in overseas tourists and industry workforce
Just over twenty local people attended a presentation by staff from the South of Scotland Destination Alliance about their draft responsible tourism strategy in the Buccleuch Centre last Thursday. The draft strategy has been developed following wide consultation.
Those attending were accommodation providers, hoteliers, people working for and with community organisations and included people from Hawick, Langholm and the surrounding area.
David Hope Jones, Chief Executive and Development Agent, Sarah Macdonald of the SSDA, explained how the strategy fits with the south of Scotland economic strategy. They said that the priorities are to increase international visitors to the area and increase the number of people working in tourism. International visitors are known to spend more money per head than other visitors to Scotland.
