THE organisers of Canonbie Show are hoping the weather is going to pick up for this Saturday’s annual flower show.
Monday night saw the judging of the scarecrow competition and given the weekend weather, they were likely to have been very wet scarecrows this year.
Tonight, the annual pet show will be held at the village hall at 6.30pm and Border Vets will be on hand to give advice to owners. May the best pet win!
On Saturday there will be the usual fancy dress parade with the floats and people leaving at the Cross Keys hotel at 1.30pm. The judging takes place on the field at 1.45pm.
There are show sections for flowers, vegetables, walking sticks, crafts and fruit as well as an extensive range of classes for children. There are a wide range of photography classes and arts classes and many other industrial and baking sections.
On the field itself there will be birds of prey, stalls, a kiddies’ fun fair and clowns as well as the usual races, tug of war and a great favourite in Canonbie, penny pitching.
The show is always a very sociable event and the crowd will be entertained by Langholm pipe band.
40 trophies and prize money will be presented including the new Jim and Margaret Leslie trophy for the best scones in the show.
All in all, a great day out is promised, whatever the weather.
