AUTHOR and wildlife artist Wendy Patterson read from her new children’s book when she visited Canonbie primary school’s nursery class.
Wendy, who lives in Newcastleton, was in school for the whole day and worked with all the classes on descriptive writing and art work.
In the nursery Wendy read A Day With Amber Rabbit before presenting all the children with their own copies to keep as Easter gifts. The children thoroughly enjoyed her visit.
Wendy said: “I was invited to the nursery and school by Carol Wilson, deputy headteacher, to read my new book to the nursery class, who were fantastic.
“I then worked in each of the classes from P1 to P7 on drawing and descriptive writing.
The topic was wildlife so I took along a variety of wildlife books, posters and leaflets for the children so they could find information about the animal or bird they chose to illustrate.
“Under their illustrations they added their descriptive writing. All the classes were so engaged and produced some amazing work.
“The school made me so welcome and I was overwhelmed by the large order of signed books from parents. Their support means a lot. What a lovely school to work with.”
