THE Langholm Initiative has announced it took over ownership of the kiosk at the Kilngreen from Buccleuch last Friday.
The boards of the Initiative and Tarras Valley Nature Reserve (TVNR) are investigating the possible uses it could be put to.
Margaret Pool, who chairs the Initiative, said: “It could be used to promote / relaunch and expand the eco-tours project which had a very successful first season in 2019 and brought much business to the town’s hospitality sector.
“Sadly, the eco-tours had to be suspended in 2020 when the pandemic struck.
“Otherwise, things are starting to fall into place for the TVNR.
“A development manager has been appointed and hopes to take up her post in early July.
“There has been a good response to the readvertisement of the estate manager’s job and interviews are due to begin shortly.”
She added: “It is hoped within the coming week to start recruiting for an environmental education officer to take forward a new project, Inspiring Engagement with Nature which is targeted primarily at younger people but may be of interest to older folk, too.
“It will carry forward the work of past environmental projects promoted by the Initiative.”
