A veritable army of willing volunteers and committee members has been hard at work, putting up marquees, setting out tables, roping off rings, staking out pens and doing all the thousand and one other jobs that need doing before the gates open on Saturday morning and the fun begins.
And as if the logistics of working out what goes where weren’t tricky enough, this year the weather has added a few complications.
“We had a field inspection on Friday night and everything was fine but of course there was quite a bit of rain over the weekend,” says Show Chairman Robin Vevers. “Fortunately the field has been left in good order from previous events through the Summer, and it’s got good grass cover, so we’ve just had to be sensible with the way we’ve laid the field out. Getting heavy equipment, vehicles and marquees onto the field has been a challenge, but we’ve done our best to keep the public areas nice and clean.”
