RYAN Greig and Samantha Taylor are reopening the butcher’s shop in Langholm High Street next Tuesday.
They are keeping with tradition, trading under the WW Middlemass Butchers name.
The couple, who originally hail from Aberdeen, have lived here for three years, with Ryan being employed as a private chef and, more recently, at two hotels in Lockerbie.
With 28 years’ experience and a young family, he was looking for a new challenge and wanted to reduce travelling to and from work.
He noticed for some time the butcher’s was closed and listening to locals in the community who missed having a butcher’s shop, he made some enquiries with Kevin Smith, who formerly owned the business.
As well as the popular range of pies, he is introducing a small selection of fish.
He plans to develop a production kitchen at the rear of the premises and open this next January to produce ready meals, cured meats, jams and chutneys.
He also plans to take over the neighbouring properties and expand the business into a deli offering a variety of produce.
“We’re really looking forward to reopening the butcher’s and if it works and with community support, I hope to provide job opportunities for local people.”
The shop will open from 8am to 5pm six days a week and he will take orders for Christmas from next Tuesday.
