- Loreburn “still committed” to stalled housing project
The company behind Langholm’s stalled Murtholm housing development say they are still committed to the project.
But Loreburn Housing Association admit they are “frustrated” that legal wrangling with “certain stakeholders” has caused the ambitious scheme to be delayed for nearly three months – and possibly till the New Year.
The ultimate aim of the project is to create around 130 homes, of which around 70 per cent will be affordable.
Phase One of the development – which would have seen the construction of 35 care bungalows and a footbridge over the River Esk – began early this year, only to grind to a halt in early May.
The reason for the hold-up is understood to be a dispute with adjacent landowners over access. Initially Loreburn said the delay would be for a couple of weeks, but contractors Cubby Construction removed their heavy plant machinery from the site, which has remained empty since.
