Doing the Wright thing for Sycamore Gap

Amazing offer by Canonbie Sawmill owners

Canonbie sawmill owners Steve and Tara Wright have made an amazing offer following the shocking and apparently senseless felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree.

The couple both grew up not far from Hadrian’s Wall and often played near the 300-year-old tree as children.

“It’s like losing part of the family to be honest,” Tara said. “We are both from the area and it was a big part of our childhood. Everybody knew the tree and we used to play at the Roman wall beside it, so it really wasn’t nice to hear the news about it being cut down.

“Every time we were down there, we would always look over to see it. You would never drive past there and not turn your head to look at the tree.”
