Cumberland League Frizington have recruited Workington Town forward James Robinson as coach for the new season – and he may even lace up his boots for the Division Two outfit.
The 31-year-old will replace Graham Burns and if the tough back-rower opts to be a player-coach, it will hand Frizington a huge boost in their bid to improve on last season’s encouraging effort.
“I wouldn’t rule it out,” said club spokesman Dave Farrell. “James will complete his commitments in the professional sphere in the next few weeks and then it will be full on at Frizington for the new season’s kick off.”
Robinson featured for Frizington as a youngster before moving on to Wath Brow Hornets and later in to the pro game at Derwent Park.
Farrell added: “He’s got connections and won’t come in as a complete stranger. He’s also recognised as a good professional who trains hard, and hopefully he will bring that same approach to Frizington.
“It’s a case of trying to move the club forward and build on what has been done by Graham Burns, who while no longer head coach, will still be around to help out where possible.
“We will move in to the new season in a positive frame of mind. Overall, last season was very positive and the club moved forward, getting in to the play-off finals. We have the basis to move things on and not only reach finals but win them.”
