The midfielder believes his new team-mates have what it takes to mount a challenge at the top.

Boyd is urging his team-mates to help turn Borough Park into a fortress and insists no team likes travelling to west Cumbria.

He said: “I’ve played against Workington and I know that no-one likes coming up here.

“It’s miles away from anywhere but we can turn this into a positive for us. If we make Borough Park a fortress then we can seriously challenge this year but we must win our home games.

“I believe in this team. We’ve only been together a short time but the quality is there. There are some really good players who will thrive this season.”

Workington’s Blue Square Bet North fixtures will be announced today with Halifax among the new away grounds to visit.

Bishop’s Stortford will be Reds’ longest haul of the year – a 600-mile round-trip and taking the total travelling to 8,136 miles.

Boyd will make his Workington debut during the Whitehaven Tournament, which kicks off on July 16.

Boss Darren Edmondson wants to add more names to his squad with a striker and defender top of his wanted list.
