Sporting legends George and Finlay light up Langholm

HISTORY: Langholm’s David Stevenson catches up with old sporting buddies George McNeill and Finlay Calder

George McNeill was regarded as the Usain Bolt of his day – a sprinter of world class who in the 1970s and 80s was considered among the fastest men in the world.

These days George is known for his highly motivational keynote and after-dinner speeches, which attract audiences from across the world.

Last week George was in Langholm, where his on-stage partner was another inspirational Scot. Finlay Calder not only captained Scotland, but led the British Lions on their historic, victorious tour of Australia in 1989.
