Stevie bowls through the rain to retain singles cup

LANGHOLM bowler Stevie Barker retained the J A Turnbull cup at the Langholm Old Town open singles tournament in very wet conditions last Sunday.

The runner-up in the final was Grant Fletcher who is also from the host club and president this season.

In the semi-finals Barker knocked out the 2008 winner Ian Crawford of Melrose and Fletcher beat Duncan Nawrocki of Langholm.

The tournament was sponsored by Karl Nawrocki and the cup and prizes were presented by Cornet Graeme Murray.

A social evening followed in the tea rooms and was attended by the Common Riding principals and their families.

Entertainment was provided by Billy Thompson, Ken Fryer, Charlie Graham and Steven Milligan.

Cornet Murray and his right and left-hand men Derek Hogg and Simon Richardson were led into the bowling green by Piper Paul Mitchell.
