TEENAGE footballer Robert McLean is back in Langholm after playing for Queen of the South junior squad at the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.
The 15-year-old centre back, who attends Langholm Academy, finished second with his team in the second tier cup – The Globe.
Robert, who is hoping to sign for Queen of the South shortly, competed against teams from all over the world in the tournament which has been going for 30 years and is the biggest youth tournament in the world.
He said: “I had a great time. We played against lots of teams including County Londonderry.”
Robert took part in the opening parade when the teams marched through Coleraine and they also played games against Ipswich Town, Watford and County Down.
They lost in their final game to County Londonderry who won 4-1.
His dad Kenny, of Elizabeth Street, Langholm, said: “He’s done very well. It’s taken him a long time to get this far but his efforts are starting to pay off.
“He also enjoys playing rugby.
“We are looking for a local sponsor for him for the new season. About £70 to £80 pays for a new kit and the sponsor gets their name on the Queen of the South website.”
Anyone interested in sponsoring Robert can contact 80591.
