Solid performance in the field secures victory

LANGHOLM beat top of the table Lanercost when they amassed 227 in their 40 overs. Duncan Elliott was top scorer on 59.

Lanercost succumbed to 105 all out with Dave Steele, Jack Pool and Graham Park taking three wickets each.

Langholm's opening batsmen start well against the pacy attack. The opening stand went beyond 50 for the first time this season with Graham Park looking in good form. With the score on 76 Park (39) chased a wide one off Robley and gave M Brown a catch in the slips.

Skipper Tony Steele joined Elliott and they took the score past 100 after 20 overs. Elliott looked on form as he passed his 50 with a four. The score reached 141 when Big Dunc fell for 59, caught by Robley off Wright.

Nicky Piszczykiewicz joined Steele but they added only 6 before Tony was bowled by Wright for 28 and replaced by Gregor Park.

Nicky finally found his range with successive sixes but fell for 25 bowled by Wright, with the score 181 for 4. Dave Steele joined Gregor and they took the score over 200 before Park fell for 19 caught by M Brown off N Brown.

Langholm looked for quick runs as the overs ran out. With the score on 219 Steele fell for 16 bowled by M Brown. Chris Stewart and Steven Johnstone eeked another 8 runs to finish.

A great effort by the home side but they were unsure whether this would be enough against the league leaders. With the score on 15 in the third over Wilson fell for 14 giving Stewart the catch off Graham Park's bowling. Park claimed his second wicket when M Brown(14) gave Elliott a catch in the slips with the score on 42.

Park caught Foster for 27 to leave the visitors three down for 64. Dave Steele and Pool exerted some control and Dave clean bowled Robley for 15 and had Kennedy caught behind by the nimble Gregor leaving Lanercost in trouble at 82 for 5.

The score progressed to 89 before Baldwin fell for 10 when Tony Steele took the catch off his brother's bowling. Two more wickets fell with the score on 89 when Graham Park held onto a skier to get rid of Kennedy and Stewart caught N Brown off Pool's bowling.

Pool claimed his third, clean-bowling Granville for 4. The last pair took Lanercost past 100 but Bailey Donaldson finished it, having Blagden lbw for 1.

Pool had 3 for 12, Dave Steele 3 for 19, Graham Park 3 for 42 and Donaldson 1 for 0 off one ball.

A great victory for Langholm with a comprehensive batting display and a solid performance in the field.
