This was the third attempt to hold the competition, the previous two occasions being cancelled because of bad weather.

There was heavy rain for the early starters and play had to be suspended for an hour and a half.

However, the rain abated and play got underway again at 10.30am in what would best be described as testing conditions, with a lot of surface water around and the odd shower still blowing in.

The intreped golfers pushed on and, despite the conditions, good scores were being posted, with Simon Tweddle the early clubhouse leader.

As the day progressed, the sun came out, giving the later starters the better weather but it was still very wet underfoot.

The final group of the day produced some good solid play from Gary Paisley and Andrew Paisley who traded blows over the final holes, with Andrew coming out on top to take the contest.

The day ended in glorious sunshine which was a bit ironic, considering the weather over the last couple of months.

Thanks go to the greens staff Dougie Irving and Robin Nixon for prepairing the course not only last weeked but also all season because it has been a very testing time with the constant wet conditions making work on the course extremely difficult.

The course is in great condition thanks to both these men.

Thanks to Pauline Irving and Shirley Borthwick for the catering who kept everyone well fed all day. Thanks to Ann Crawford for running the tombola which raised vital funds for the club.

Thanks to club captain Alan Wison for organising the open and the superb prizes. Last but not least, a big thanks to all who took part and supported the event in some testing weather.

Andrew won with 38 stableford points and the best scratch score was posted by Gary Paisley, a great score of 75 in the conditions.

Results: Andrew Paisley, Simon Tweddle, Jim Murry, Alan Wilson, Callum Jeffrey. Best scratch score: Gary Paisley. best visitor was Barry Paterson and Callum Jeffrey was closest to the pin.
