THE FOOTBALL season kicks-off this Saturday for CFC Bowholm.
The team plays in C division of the Border Embroideries amateur league. The squad travel to Lauder and it will be a tough opening fixture, with their opponents having finished fourth in the table last season.
Nearly half of the Canonbie squad is under the age of 18. Youngest of the ‘babes’ is new goalkeeper Ali Little who is only 14. Next at 15 is Ryan Jackson, followed by Euan Wilson at 16.
There are three 17-year-olds – vice-captain Jake Little, along with Chris Stewart and Niall Mattinson.
Stewart Nicholson who should be a babe at 19 says he feels old among them.
Manager George Steele said: “An abundance of skill and enthusiasm from the babes makes up for any lack of size and experience.”
Jack Pool, 17, and Josh Todd, 14, have helped out the club in pre-season friendlies and if there are any other young lads, or players of any age for that matter, in the area who would like to play football, go along to training at Canonbie and join in.
For details of times ask any of the players or contact George on 013873 71280.
