Washout for Langholm CC

SELKIRK failed to raise a team for the reserve Border league cricket match against Langholm at the Castleholm last Sunday and had to concede the points.

Langholm still head the reserve Border League and cannot be beaten. The worst they can do is finish joint top if they are defeated at Melrose on August 17 and get no points when the two teams will tie.

Last Saturday, the Gala match against Hawick in the league cup was called off because of the weather. Both teams were awarded a point and that means Langholm will be unable to qualify for the final to defend the cup, despite having one game left. The defeat earlier in the season in their pool match with Gala has proved costly.

In the Border league Langholm have only Gala and Melrose left to play and the biggest threat to glory for the Castleholm men could come from the weather.

If Langholm win both matches, the title is secure, and even one defeat could be okay if they pick up seven bonus points.

But it could get more complicated if Langholm suffer a defeat and matches are called off.

If Langholm win a match and others are off because of the weather, they could claim to be unofficial champions.

The two vital matches in the Border league are Gala away this Saturday, August 9 and Melrose at home on Saturday, August 23.

In the 20/20 league Langholm have not played any matches, with two games called off because of the weather, and Melrose conceded the points to Langholm in the other fixture.

Three wins in the three remaining matches would see Langholm finish on 20 points.

So the Castleholm club will be hoping for dry weather over the next few weeks.
