Craig flies home to retain 90m title

The 21-year-old, who runs for the Harrow club, won very comfortably and was easing up in a time of 10.15 secs. Iscan Barskanmay of Hawick was second and Craig Sowerby of Seaton third.

Fleming recently won at Tweedbank and Balloch and had to run half a metre behind scratch in the 90 metres handicap, going out in his heat to the eventual winner.

Alan Crawford of Annan, now 46, won the 90 metres handicap in 9.75 secs off 10.5 metres, from Denholm of Melrose (7m), with John Paxton (11.5m) of Hawick third.

Senior vets champion George Hunter of Petreavie held on up front to win the 800 metres handicap off his 140 metres start in a time of 1 min 55.65 secs.

Hastie of Kelso produced fine running off scratch in the 1600 metres handicap to overhaul the field for victory in 4 mins 37.39 secs.

Iain Little (40m) of Langholm turned out in the youths’ 1600 metres but after riding the Common in the morning, he did well to finish in the first six. Kyle Potts of Hawick was the winner off 170 metres in 2 mins 2.72 secs.
