Being an octogenarian has its advantages

IT WAS too far to walk to London and to buy a train ticket I had to resort to a bus journey to the railway station because the car has decided that after driving for more than 60 years and taking a tumble in the hills, I am no longer bright enough.

I am grateful to buses and good friends to help me from place to place for my perambulations. There was a queue of 25 passengers at the bus stop but we all squeezed aboard. Among them was David McVittie, complete with his very fine self-made walking stick.
