AS a follow-up to your article ‘Vandalism reported’ in last week’s edition, could I clarify the voluntary tourist office opening times?

Love weather misery

SPRING is just around the corner and the bad winter we were told we were going to experience does not look likely; in fact, the opposite seems to be the case.

Is road safety campaign speeding off in wrong direction?

I REFER to your story, ‘Keep trunk road 30mph’ in the Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser on March 8.

Members of 20 Plenty audience felt intimidated

YOUR article; “Dropping limit to 30mph put to test” (E&L Advertiser, February 23) did not mention the fact that when asked for a show of hands on who disagreed with 20mph limits only five hands went up in an audience of over 40 people. Even if only 20 of these were “local” people, this shows a majority of 75 per cent in favour of 20mph limits.

Groundwork is laid to lead us into uncertain future

AS ONE of the longest-serving councillors in Dumfries and Galloway (24 years this May) I have to take issue with councillor Ronnie Nicholson, the leader of the Labour group, after his latest load of political bile about the budget and Conservative/Liberal Democrat administration.

20mph speed plan must address the needs of locals

I, LIKE others, attended the bizarre ‘public meeting’ (organised by 20’s Plenty For Us in Langholm day centre) on February 20.IT’S the speed of motor vehicles, stupid. This was the headline on the handout at the 20’s Plenty meeting which I went to last Monday night.

Woman spotted dumping duck

REGARDING the Muscovy duck reported in the Eskdale & Liddesdale Advertiser on February 16, it was surmised that an owner had left it there and that is exactly what it was, maybe on January 31.
