Academy will clock up 50th anniversary in 2012

I AM indebted to archivist Arthur Bell who has provided me with an article from the E&L Advertiser of October 3, 1962 detailing the opening of the current Langholm Academy building.
It makes interesting reading and I am delighted that the official opening has been well documented.
So, the Academy is 50 years old this year and I am sure there are many of your senior readers who have memories of the school being built.
I know of one person who served his time as a joiner on this building and I am sure there may be more.
I just wonder whether there are any readers who have photos of the building under construction or have memories to share or, indeed, were among some of the first pupils to enjoy the new facilities which apparently were better than at Eton.
I can be contacted directly at school and if you are able to provide any photographic evidence, please be assured that it will be returned to you.
My email address is jmcfadye826@ea.dumgal.sch.uk.
