Consultation goes on, says Initiative

ON behalf of the Langholm Initiative, I would like to thank all the members of the community who took the time to attend the open day last week to learn more about the projects we are proposing to undertake.I WOULD like to confirm to your readers that the Tractor Trekkers were escorted by Canonbie vintage tractors from Harker to the border where they were welcomed by Canonbie piper Iain Bell.MAY I, through the courtesy of your columns, express the thanks of the Langholm, Eskdalemuir, Ewes and Westerkirk parish church for the support given at our annual fete on Sunday, June 22.MAY I take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored me, kindly gave donations and helped me with my fundraising for Alzheimer Scotland when I recently ran the Edinburgh marathon.

Visitors were informed about the proposals for the redevelopment of the Buccleuch Mill as well as the suggestions to improve the Kilngreen, the Galaside wood and training provision.

About 60 visitors took the opportunity to listen, ask questions and complete questionnaires. Feedback was extremely positive, with many people volunteering to become involved in making these proposals a reality.

We are continuing to consult and the questionnaires are still available from the Langholm Initiative office and the library.

If anyone was not able to attend the open day but would like to give us their views, please collect a questionnaire or call us on 013873 80914.

They spent Monday night at the Cross Keys Hotel where the sum of £1,025, raised by Canonbie vintage, was handed over to them, with their meal that night in the hotel. One bed was sponsored by the hotel and the other by Canonbie vintage.

The next morning they were escorted once again by Canonbie vintage up to the Mosspaul Hotel, then handed over to the Borders Vintage Club, who escorted them up to and through Edinburgh.

The Tractor Trekkers reached John O’Groats on Sunday at 11.15am, celebrating their achievement with a bottle of champagne.
