Most excellent play earns bowlers Bibles

150 YEARS BOWLING The last two weeks have been very prolific of matches on both bowling greens.

On the New Langholm green the week before last, two bibles were played for in rinks of two, and were won by Messrs David Reid and Robert Anderson, and well they deserved them, for their play, especially the second night, was most excellent.

Old Town Green – The champion bowls were contested for on this green on the afternoon of Saturday week last.

Twenty players entered the lists and after some well contested and close ends, Mr Taylor, manufacturer, came off champion of 1862-63.

New and Old Town Greens – The annual match between the two greens was played on Friday evening last on the old town green, commencing a few minutes after seven, and continuing till nine o’clock.

The contest through-out the whole game was very close, neither party leading the other by any great number, but at the close, and after comparing the figures of each rink, it was found that the old town players had again the best of it by four shots.

100 YEARS

AN INTERESTING DISCOVERY

On Thursday, while the sign was being removed from the shop of Miss Latimer, milliner, who is removing to other premises in view of the demolition of the property she occupies, which was purchased by the Hope Trustees, an interesting discovery was made.

50 YEARS

OLD BOTTLE – OLD DRINK

In a recent issue we mentioned an old bottle which had been un-earthed in the town which we suggested would be some 50 years old.

25 YEARS

PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE

The Langholm Academy fund raising evening last Tuesday got off to a rousing start with the tiny tots from the Pat and Wendy Allen School of Dance going through their paces.
