GUY Fawkes night went off as usual in November 1987 with a bang and a very large crowd gathered on a grand night to see the Rev James Watson light one of the biggest bonfires seen on the Kilngreen for some years.
Clasping cups of hot soup or sparklers in their hands, the youngsters watched in awe as the firework display lit the sky. Rockets and Catherine Wheels created a colourful picture and the organisers were to be commended on their work.
Mind you, as you can see from the picture, it wasn’t just the young ones who went along to enjoy the evening.
