The christening of Rupert Gervase Hepburn in April 1953, son of Captain and Mrs J G MIlne Home

A large congregation was present, including the baby's brother and sister, relations, friends and many connected with the Buccleuch estates. The church was beautifully decorated with daffodils, blue grape hyacinths and arum lilies, the altar being massed with spring flowers.

About 60 returned to Irvine House to drink to the baby's health, proposed by Hector Monro in a happy speech. Among the guests there was a warm welcome for Sir John and Lady Milne Home, who came from Elibank to participate in the event, also his maternal grandmother, Mrs Godfrey Elwes who came from Suffolk.

The godparents are Mrs Jock Elliot, Mrs Hector Monro, Mrs Leslie, Mr Mounsey Heysham, for whom R Thorburn stood proxy, and T Westoll.
