Down Memory Lane

A READER has sent this photo of the lads and lasses in the parade that leads the horses down the Kirk Wynd.

It was taken in 1953 and we have many of the names.

Front row, left to right: Marion Douglas, Marion McClaren, Ian Grant, ?, Audrey Irving, Bobby Morrison, Elsie Beattie, Iris Beattie.

Second row: Brenda Morrison, Irene Beverley, Alister Gall, Lila McVittie, ?, ?, Robert Steele.

Third row: Mina Nixon, Margaret Boyes, Helen Nixon, ?-hidden behind a head, Ellen Davidson.

Fourth row: Anne Burns, ?, Jim Wood, Rena Johnstone, Andrew Jeffrey, Sheena Roy, ?, ? Janet Farmer.

Fifth row: Mona Armstrong, William Dalgliesh, Janette Ritchie, John Copeland?.

Back row: ?, ?, John Smith, ?. Following them is the town band and the Cornet John Paterson, although the photo has cut off his head.

Last week’s photo was of William Elphinstone Malcolm, the man on the right with the cane, at his home in Burnfoot, Westerkirk. He was the son of Sir Pulteney Malcolm and was one of the first trustees of Thomas Hope hospital. We have no names for the servants.
