Winter bug hits hospitals

NINETY-five patients and 53 employees have been affected by an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Five wards – six, nine, 10, 14 and 18 – remain closed to new admissions and patient transfers and two other wards, four and seven, have been affected but are operating normally. Ward 12 has reopened and wards 10 and 14 were due to reopen yesterday. A number of patients in Midpark Hospital and Annan Hospital have also shown signs of symptoms and are being closely monitored.
