Wide-ranging safari supper will get young to Africa

A SAFARI supper was held in Canonbie last Saturday and raised £500 towards the church youth group’s Malawi expedition in July.
About 70 people enjoyed the evening, with the starter and main course held in various houses in the area. Everyone then gathered for the puddings in Canonbie United parish church.
There was musical entertainment from Donald and Jenny Scott, Charlie Foster and young people. The youth group served the company with the sweets, wine and coffee.
Two leaders Lois Lane and Ruth Foster will take about half a dozen young people aged 15 to 18 to Ekwendeni in northern Malawi.
Lois said it would be a great experience for them. They plan to run a holiday club for rural children, paint some classrooms in the school and possibly help with an HIV project, in which a counsellor speaks to mothers and children about staying healthy.
The next fundraiser is a quiz on March 1.
