Warning over river dangers

LOTHIAN and Borders fire and rescue service and police in the Scottish Borders are urging the public to stay safe around water after two incidents in the same week.

Senior officers at the emergency services are concerned after anecdotal reports of an elderly man who got into difficulties in the River Tweed at Melrose last Tuesday after he tried to rescue his dog. Last Wednesday a 12-year-old boy got into trouble in water at The Cauld in the River Teviot in Hawick and was rescued by a member of the public.
