Vomiting bug

DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY: NHS Dumfries & Galloway has confirmed there is a suspected norovirus, commonly referred to as the winter vomiting bug, in Ward 10 at the infirmary and seven patients are affected.

Infection control measures have been introduced and the ward is closed to new admissions and transfers.

Pick up sandbags

NEWCASTLETON: Sandbags are readily available in an unlocked shed at the fire station for residents who are concerned about flooding.

The new emergency leaflet has been produced and will be delivered as soon as possible.

Friendly charity

DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY: A charity which supports over 65s is expanding thanks to a £1,500 grant from transport operator FirstGroup, ScotRail’s parent company.

The Food Train provides weekly deliveries of fresh groceries to help older people live independently at home. Now its organisers are developing a new befriending and activity service, Food Train Friends of Dumfries & Galloway.

Call for special

NEWCASTLETON: Residents have been asking about having a special constable in the village but PC Brian Murray says an SPC is not allowed to work alone in the village until they have several years of experience working with regulars in the job.

They also have to give up weekends for training at police headquarters in Fettes.

Parlour wanted

CANONBIE: Neil Imrie of Harelawhole has submitted a screening opinion request under Town & Country Planning (Hierarchy of Development) (Scotland) Regulation 2009 to build a milking parlour and create a slurry lagoon.

Safety training

ESKDALE: Magnox Ltd Chapelcross provided free fire safety and fire extinguisher training to representatives of Annandale and Eskdale federation of village halls. Representatives learned more about fire safety, including demonstrations on the use of different types of fire extinguishers.

Gardens judged

NEWCASTLETON: The front of house garden entries will be judged next week and the Beautiful Scotland judges will be in the village in a couple of weeks. The village has already been judged for the Scottish Borders council’s Floral Gateway contest.
