THE police station in Newcastleton has now shut leaving villagers more than 20 miles from their nearest officer in Hawick.
It is understood that the station – which cost about £6,000 a year to run – was emptied either last week or the week before but residents say although they knew it was going to close, they were not informed that it had officially closed for good. It is understood that the building will now be sold.
