Recital for new season

THE new season at the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm begins on Sunday, August 12 with a recital by international musicians Steven Osborne and Jean Johnson.
The husband and wife duo will play Brahms’ Clarinet Sonata in F minor, Gershwin’s Preludes and Schumann’s Romance.
The Borders is busy with events and exhibitions this summer. Resonant Landscapes by Alan Richmond is in Old Gala House, Galashiels, until Sunday, August 12.
The Plainstanes stage at the Midsteeple in Dumfries is hosting a series of afternoon musical performances this summer as part of the In Our Town programme of street entertainment.
Dumfries is preparing for the return of its most famous citizens, Robert Burns and Jean Armour, in a new production this weekend.
The National Museum of Costume at Shambellie House, New Abbey, Dumfries is showing Off the Peg: Fashion from the 1940s and 1950s until October 31.
Classical music fans are being urged to sign up for the new series of concerts at the Sands Centre in Carlisle. The venue starts a new season of classical music on October 5 with an appearance by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra.
