Plan to end trial by jury in the region

DUMFRIESSHIRE MSP Elaine Murray has called on Scottish justice secretary Kenny MacAskill to commit to retaining jury trials in Dumfries sheriff court after “behind closed door” discussions to end them.

The Scottish Courts Service is holding ‘dialogue sessions’ with invited audiences to discuss plans to centralise jury trials and remove them entirely from the region.
