DUMFRIESSHIRE MP David Mundell visited the Crichton Carbon Centre in Dumfries last week.
Mr Mundell joined Mark McKenna, project leader, to look at how the project engages staff and students at Dumfries & Galloway College to reduce its carbon footprint.
Mr Mundell said: “This is a great initiative which has my full support. It is taking real action to tackle carbon emissions and doing it in an engaging and positive way. I was very pleased to visit the project and will be following its progress with interest.”
Mike Bonaventura, chief executive of the Crichton Carbon Centre said: “The methods and tools we use in our engagements with public sector organisations are now finely honed.
“They enable us to quickly provide a snapshot of their circumstances, for which we can make recommendations for efficiency improvements.
“Our approach is transferable over a wide range of public services and buildings at a time when improvements in efficiency are recognised as being crucial for sustainable growth.”
The Crichton Carbon Centre is a teaching and applied research enterprise established in 2007 to help Scotland make the transition to a low-carbon society.
To achieve this, the centre works with individuals, communities and organisations, including businesses, social enterprises, schools, colleges and universities and other public sector services, undertaking both funded projects and paid commissions.
The range of services includes carbon footprinting and carbon management, low-carbon built environment solutions and carbon management training.
It conducts academic research and teaching in carbon management in partnership with the University of Glasgow to deliver Britain’s first MSc in carbon management.
