Growing achievement

IT WAS a golden achievement for Helen Knowles of Tinnisburn Plants, Canonbie at the Ayr flower show at the weekend.
Helen said: “It's our first gold medal and both myself and Michael my husband who helped me put the display together were thrilled. The judges were full of praise for our achievement and we had lots of positive comments from visitors to the show.”
Helen’s creation was designed with wildlife in mind with bug homes made from clay land drains, a pond and lots of flowers that are good food sources for bees and butterflies.
This is only Helen’s second year in business.
Since starting to exhibit she has won silver at Gardening Scotland in June last year, at Ayr flower show in August last year and Harrogate flower show in September last year. This year Helen won a silver medal at the Harrogate flower show in April and a silver gilt in June at Gardening Scotland. She said: “We’re hoping to repeat our success at the Harrogate flower show in September.”
Details of Helen’s nursery are at www.tinnisburn.co.uk.
