Grant row breaks out over ‘invisible’ park

THE community council in Newcastleton is incensed after Scottish Borders council refused to give a grant to build a gate celebrating the Queen’s diamond jubilee at the entrance to the park because the park ‘does not exist’.

Despite documentation showing Buccleuch Estates gifted the land for a park in 1911 and the fact that the council’s own contractors were doing drainage work there at the time, the application was turned down.
