Freeman ceremony

A PROPOSAL has been made to use Langholm parish church for the ceremony to make David Stevenson a freeman of Dumfries and Galloway.
Community councillors suggested that because the church was a bigger venue, it would be more suitable than the Buccleuch Centre.
When Neil Armstrong was made a freeman of the burgh in 1972, the church was the biggest building in the town and still is. While it was an invitation only event, the public were allowed to sit upstairs and the same could be done this time. Annandale East and Eskdale councillor Denis Male said it was a good idea and they could hold a reception in the Buccleuch Centre afterwards. He would ask the council to consider it.
