LANGHOLM Legion FC face an early start to the season this weekend when they travel to face Gala Rovers in the Border Cup on Saturday.
It will prove a stern test after a set of mixed results in friendlies mainly because of the unavailability of players due to holidays although hopefully the majority will be back and available to Manager David Pool.
Pre season began at the end of June with five friendlies being played against Howard Rangers losing 2.0, Hawick United winning 2.0, Eden Thistle losing 2.0, Hawick Legion drawing 1.1 and against Longtown losing 3.0.
Some of the old guard are unavailable which has the given the youngsters, who've shown plenty of potential, the chance to shine although it’ll take time to bed them into the side along with a couple of exciting signings from Carlisle.
After Saturday’s match they open their league campaign away to Hawick Waverley on Tuesday August 14 before travelling to Peebles to face Tweeddale Rovers on August 18 which sets them up for a mouth-watering local derby against Hearts of Liddesdale on Thursday August 23 in their first home match of the season. A tough start faces the club so its to be hoped the new look side can hit the ground running.
The club are currently organising a Fun Five Aside Football Tournament to be played on the Bank Holiday weekend Sunday of August 26 on the Castleholm. The emphasis is firmly on fun with teams being entered from workplaces, pubs, clubs, families or just friends. Only two registered amateur players are permitted for each team with a cost of £10 per side. For the youngsters there will be a bouncy castle and other games with a kids match between the semi and final. For the adults there will be a pitchside bar amongst plenty of attractions with Karaoke and BBQ in the Cricket Club afterwards.
To make the draw for the competition all teams must be entered to Martin Thomlinson (81963) by Sunday August 19.
