May Porteous celebrated her 80th birthday on May 3 and her son, Allan, had his 50th coming up on May 22 so they decided to mark the double occasion. Last Saturday in the Langholm Royal British Legion clubrooms friends were invited along for a birthday bash but instead of giving May and Allan gifts they were asked to make a donation.

Mother and son handed over the money to Kate Turk, day centre manager, after last Tuesday’s lunch. At the party May and Allan cut a cake baked by daughter Nancy Cunningham who lives in Glasgow and did the catering. Music for dancing was provided by the Roger Dobson Band.
