BRYAN McKinnie was inducted as president for the coming year at the annual general meeting of Canonbie Probus Club in the clubhouse of Canonbie bowling club last Wednesday.

Peter McManus was re-elected secretary and treasurer. Bryan succeeds Jack Terrace who enjoyed a successful year in office with some very interesting talks from visiting speakers.

The club learnt about dementia from Mandy Pool of Alzheimer Scotland, the history of Blackpool Tower from Dennis Cockburn and about Wojtek the Bear from Aileen Orr. Two videos about farming shown by Peter Hannah were much enjoyed as were Ruth McKinnie’s talk on her life in Sussex and Michael Cowen’s story of his motorbike journey from London to Beijing.

In addition, the club’s annual outing this year to the National Air Museum at East Fortune where a guided tour of the airfield and the inspection of Concorde were the highlights of the day proved to be another great success.

The club now looks forward to another good year and welcomes anyone wishing to join.
