SOUTH of Scotland MSP Joan McAlpine has attacked plans by the UK Government to make changes to council tax benefit which could hit nearly 15,000 people in Dumfries and Galloway in the pocket.
The Tory-Lib Dem coalition is transferring the funding of the benefit to Scotland but at the same time reducing the amount available by 10 per cent. This will hit more than 14,700 people in the area, many of them pensioners on fixed and low incomes.
