A massive thank-you to everyone for making my day

MAY I take this opportunity to thank the people of Langholm for their support throughout the Common Riding period.

I would also like to thank all those who sent cards and expressed best wishes.

Being Langholm Cornet has been a great privilege and honour and I have enjoyed every minute of it and made many new friends.

My right and left-hand men, Lee and Graeme, have done a sterling job to guide me through the many challenges of being Cornet even though they never missed a chance of a wind-up or practical joke. It’s all been great fun and I could not have managed without them, so thanks lads.

Our horses have been turned out immaculately over the two weeks. Thanks to Shelley for all her hard work and to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill for the use of their stables.

Lastly I would like to thank Roger Maxwell and the Common Riding Committee for all their hard work over the last year. Since becoming Cornet I have seen first hand all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. It’s a massive undertaking and you all do a first-class job.

Thank you all again.
