Youngsters take the wheel at kart challenge

WHEELS were polished and the steering tested as preparations went ahead for the first Go-Kart Derby in Langholm last Saturday.

In total, five home-made Go-Karts lined up at the start for some entertaining and fiercely-contested races.

The five karts were used by a number of different children so a few time trials were held.

Jake Park won the Go-Kart time trial with his dad Gregor and received his prize from Duncan Elliott of the Xcel Project.

Ruaridh Hotson and his cousin Callum Scott won the best-designed Go-Kart and this prize was presented by Kenneth Pool.

The weather stayed good for the event and the organisers had also laid on a bubble obstacle course, barbecue, tombola, raffle, Play Your Cards Right and a DVD/games stall.

Sharon Irving, one of the organisers, said: "It was a successful day and we're looking to making it an annual event so we hope we will have even more Go-Kart participants next year."
