Tarras road repairs delayed

ESKDALE'S MSP Oliver Mundell says he is dismayed to learn that repair works at Tarras Bridge are set to extend into next year after further delays to the procurement process.

Mr Mundell has been contacted by constituents concerned by the length of time the works are taking and he has hit out at yet more delays on this vital route.

He said: "The lack of guarantees over the road at Tarras Bridge is hugely disappointing and causes yet more unnecessary delays for people using this route.

"What is most worrying is that the council roads team are still unable to give a firm guarantee of when these works will be completed and the Tarras Road fully accessible.

"While it is welcome that there is set to be better signage for the diverted route, this is too little too late and it is time a proper plan to carry out these repairs is put in place as soon as possible."

Councillor Ronnie Tait, Annandale East and Eskdale, confirmed the road would be closed for 'a lot longer'.

Originally, the council's design team were going to design it but this had now gone out to tender. It would then have to go through the procurement process and tendering to do the work.

He said: "It will be into the middle of next year before it is done."
