LANGHOLM Initiative’s Making the Most of Moorlands project has been working with intrepid S1 pupils from Langholm Academy for three months as they undertake the challenge of gaining their John Muir Discovery awards.

They faced four challenges – to explore, discover, conserve and share. Tasks included building bird boxes, rescuing tadpoles, dissecting owl pellets, undertaking stream surveys and building shelters. The group also built a new bridge at the bird hide.

They have now completed three of their challenges and are looking ahead to the sharing section which they will do over the next few weeks.

Cathy Hooper, education assistant, said: "Well done to the group. They have certainly made John Muir proud."
