Medal marks Lennie's dedication to music and community

IT WAS a proud moment for Langholm Pipe Band drum sergeant Lennie Bell when he was awarded his BEM yesterday.

Lennie, accompanied by his wife, Nina, was presented with his medal by Lord Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong for services to music and the community in Dumfriesshire.

Lennie said: "My wife was very emotional and I am very proud. It has been a privilege to play in the band all these years and I would like to thank the present drummers for all their help. I will be playing for a little while longer."

Lennie has 63 years' association with the pipe band. This will be the 64th Common Riding he has played at.

Fiona said he had shown sheer dedication and proved himself to be a great tutor, changing individual's lives.
