Get kitted out to keep Liddesdale clean

LIDDESDALE community groups, sports clubs and the school can now access litter picking kits for free.

The kits were funded by a £2,000 award from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme, which is supported by money from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

Each pack has litterpickers, handihoop bag openers, disposable gloves, hi-vis vests and poop scoopers for adults and children to carry out an effective and safe clean-up.

They are available at Equipment will be delivered and picked up by the council which will also lift the bags of rubbish collected during the clean-up.

Craig Blackie, neighbourhood manager at the council, said: “While most people help to keep our area clean and tidy, there is a small minority who still drop litter. People are less likely to drop litter in an area which is clean so a community litter pick can make a real difference.

"Groups can register their litter pick with Keep Scotland Beautiful which will provide advice on how to organise a successful event.”
